Green square project and its water sensitive strategy



Green square project
The location of green square renewal area is between the city of Sydney and Kingsford Smith International airport. The green square has longest industrial history and is considered as the largest renewal project in Australia. By 2021, the project wants to accommodate 33,100 residential population and 22,000 workforce population. It means 13,000 new dwellings, 485,400 m2of non-residential/ commercial floor space and 46,000m2of retail floor space.



The development of green square follows the lots of official guidelines and documents as below.
In the document of Sustainable Sydney 2030, the urban renewal area is integrated into the fabric of city by providing a public domain. This part of document highlights following elements:

l  Public spaces, cultural and recreative facilities
l  Well-connected street
l  Public transport connection
l  High quality public spaces
l  Provide facilities supporting shopping, business and cultural hub
Water use and water sensitive
The water sensitive urban design strategy for green square is to make best use of public domain areas to storm water. The recycle water system is developed for supplying of non-potable water due to extraction of low flows from culvert and treatment centralized within a plant facility.  

All the storm water run off from the private domain. These water is treated and harvested in local area for father reducing the demands by providing treated water for irrigation of the private domain.
